Digitech Harmony Man

Post by GeneralPenguin » Wed Dec 15, 2010 4:14 pm

Hey all,

I've just dug my harmony man from out of retirement but i'm really unsure how to connect it to the gcx while keeping everything clean with my amps drive channel and other effects.

It will be used on both clean and drive channel so i will be removing the small stone to provide a loop for it.

This is the current way things are set at the moment, loops 5 - 8 are in the amps FX loop.

Loop 1 mxr 402 (for a mild crunch)
Loop 2 bad monkey (as a boost)
Loop 3 small stone
Loop 4 channel switching

Loop 5 mxr 402
Loop 6 g major
Loop 7 dd-20
Loop 8 isp decimator

All help and advice is greatly appreciated

Cheers very much

This one is a bit hairy and I am not totally sure it will work this way, but here goes anyway...

I am assuming you want to use Loop 3 to control this and everything else will stay where it is so you don't have to reprogram all your presets. I will also assume that you are using the Guitar In on the GCX front panel to connect your guitar to the rig. Below are the changes from the existing setup.

1. Run the Guitar Out to the clean In on the Harmony Man.
2. Run the Distortion Out on the Harmony Man to GCX Loop 1 In.
3. Run GCX Loop 2 Out to the instrument input of your amplifier.
4. Run the Out of GCX Loop 5 to the In of GCX Loop 3.
5. Run the Send of GCX Loop 3 to the Distortion Return on the Harmony Man.
6. Run the Mono output of the Harmony Man to the Return of GCX Loop 3.
7. run the Out of GCX Loop 3 to the In of GCX Loop 6.

Let us know if this does not work.

p.s. Is the Decimator you are using one of the "G" series?

I'm using the regular decimator but may upgrade to the g series in the future but I've just finished experimenting with the harmony man and it now works like a charm.

Thank you very much for the help John it is very much appreciated.

Hello John,
Please, can you help me again?
I have a digitech HM-2 and i wired the same way you are suggesting below.

I think it is not even related with GCX.

When i put the HM-2's GCX Loop in the AMP's effect loop like below, the tracking led on the HM-2 doesn't light up and the effect is really bad.
But when i put the HM-2's GCX Loop after the distortion pedals but in the AMP Input, the effect works good.
The tracking led lights up and the effect is good.

I think it have to do with placing the effect before or after the Amp's pre-amp.
But it is strange, because the input (pitch detection) section on the HM-2 is in the begining of the chain... the tracking led should light up.

Thanks again,
