GCX Pop/Hum Noise

Post by PeteBigg » Tue Sep 04, 2018 11:46 am

I have a GCX that is emitting strange cracking and popping noises after playing for about 2-5 minutes. Also, it has recently started making a loud hum or growl. Its running through a Mesa Mark V. The rack top down is a Furman power conditioner, then a TC Electronics G Major 2 and next is the GCX. The problem has just started and the current setup has been in place and working for 3 years without issue. We are using all George L's. Im in the process of checking each patch cable with a multi meter for a failure and planning cleaning all the jacks with contact cleaner which was never done before. Does it sound like my problem could be a ground loop?

If this is a rig that has been working fine and no other changes were made, then yea cables would be the first place to look.

What is the signal path for this rig?

Guitar into GCX>GMajor2>Amp Effects Loop. Is pretty much the order. The gcx and ground control pro handle amp switching etc.

No preamp section?

What is in each GCX Loop?
