Hey - quick question regarding the GCP and using either the 10 preset setting or the 4 preset/instant access setting.
Does anyone know if you save a bunch of presets while in the 10 preset setting, if you switch over the 4 preset setting, save stuff there, and the switch back to the 10 preset setting, will your original saved programs be there? Or are they cleared out with you switch over to the 4 preset setting?
Just don't want to lose my saved programs under the 10 preset setting if I switch over and play around with the 4 preset setting.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
- Nick

Re: marshall tsl 100 + G-Sharp +GCX Guitar + Behringer FCB
Hey Y'all,
Appreciate the info on this topic. I just recently got a GCX + GCP and was looking for a way to control my Marshall TSL from them. I actually took what was suggested here and did something a little different. Given the issues everyone typically has with the TSL's footswitch cable going out, I had already modded the TSL's footswitch to have a female DIN connector (instead of the cable going directly into it) and a male-to-male MIDI cable to go from the head to the modded footswitch.
So, following the suggestions on this post, I built a breakout box with a female DIN connector on one side and 4 TS jacks on the other. I followed the wiring diagram, and bingo - it all worked just fine. I've attached some pics.
Thanks,
- Nick

Re: GCX + GCP + active MIDI cable power
Ok I was able to solve my own problem. The issue did turn out to be the cable. I used a cable tester determined that the 3 and 5 pins of the midi cable I bought were swapped (3 was routed to 5 and 5 to 3.) So I was able to open up one of the cable's connectors and unsolder those 2 pins and resolder them to route 3 to 3 and 5 to 5. When I did that, the GCX successfully powered up the GCP with no problem.
So I guess the moral of the story is, if you buy a 5-pin active midi cable to power the GCP from the GCX, check to see how it's wired either with a cable tester or by opening it up and checking yourself (either visually or with a meter.)
Hope this helps.

GCX + GCP + active MIDI cable power
I recently purchased a GCP and a GCX and got everything set up just fine, using the AC adapter that came with the GCP to power it. I bought what was labeled as a "5-Pin Active" 30 foot MIDI cable to attempt to power the GCP over the MIDI like the manual says you can do. However, the GCP doesn't power up. It does show a very faint lighting among the red lights and the LCD display, but it's clearly not fully powered. Also, when I plug the AC adapter in with the active cable, everything lights up - all the red lights, each cell of the LCD, etc. It's like it's getting TOO much power (as if there is, in fact, power coming across the active MIDI cable and the power from the AC adapter - if that makes sense.)
So outside of the possibility of the cable being bad, are they any other issues that it could be? Any settings or specs that I'm missing. One main thought/question I had - is there a limit on how long an active MIDI cable can be and does too long of a cable affect the power that's carried over it? (This one is 30 feet.)
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
- Nick
